Israel-Palestine Conflict: A Historical and Geopolitical Overview

The Israel-Palestine conflict is a complex and historical dispute that has been going on for several decades. It is one of the most sensible issues in the world. Which has given rise to instability and political tension in the whole world including the Middle East. This conflict is not only about land, but is a deep equation of identity, religious sentiments, human rights and political interests. This conflict has been going on for several decades but no solution has been found yet. After all, what is the main reason for the conflict? Will the conflict between Israel and Palestine end in the coming times or will it remain like this, know in detail -

History of Israel-Palestine conflict

At the time of the First World War, this region was part of the Ottoman Empire. After the First World War, this region came under the control of Britain and in the "Balfour Declaration" issued by Britain in 1917, Jews were allowed a 'national home' in Palestine. Jews can make their home in that area. And can live there.  During the Second World War, the plan of Chaila was killed by Nazi Germany. In this regard, the whole world sympathized with the Jews and finally Israel was established on 14 May 1948, which caused great anger among Arab countries and Palestinians. The Palestinian community knows this incident as "Naqba" (destruction), because millions of Palestinians had to be displaced from their homes. And millions of Palestinians became homeless and lived like strangers in their own country.

1948 Arab-Israeli War

Immediately after the establishment of Israel, on the very next day, May 15, 1948, 5 Arab countries (Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon) attacked Israel. This is known as the First Arab-Israel War. At the beginning of the war, the Arab armies seemed better organized. But Israel organized itself very quickly.  Israel took control of many major cities and occupied more area than the border proposed by the UN. In this war, Israel increased its area by 23 percent from its previous area. About 7 lakh Palestinians had to become homeless due to this war. And finally the ceasefire was declared in 1949. Israel emerged as a new independent country from this war.

Six Day War of 1967

On 5 June 1967, Arab countries attacked Israel. This lasted for 6 days, hence it is called the Six Day War. Israel was victorious in this war. This war changed the political and strategic equations of the entire Middle East. In this war, Israel occupied Golan Heights from Syria, Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, Best Bank from Jordan and Gaza Strip. This caused more anger in Arab countries.

 1973 Yom Kippur War

The main reason for this war was that Egypt and Syria wanted to get back their snatched territory. On 6 October 1973, Egypt and Syria together attacked Israel. With the support of Western countries, Israel easily won this war. On 25 October 1973, a ceasefire was declared under United Nations resolution 338.

Gaza War

After this, conflicts have been seen repeatedly between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip. The latest conflict is between Israel and Hamas. Which is constantly in the headlines. Some time ago, Hamas had taken Israeli soldiers captive, in response to which Israel attacked Hamas. In which many people of the Gaza Strip died and many people became homeless and this conflict is still going on.

 Status of Israel

Israel is a country recognized by the United Nations. It sees itself as the only Jewish nation, which was founded on the basis of their historical and religious ties.  It claims that Gaza Strip, Palestine Authority, Jerusalem are under the jurisdiction of Israel. Being a country recognized by the United Nations, all these areas should be under its control. Apart from this, Israel believes that for security it is necessary to deal strictly with terrorist organizations. Israel's policy is based on "self-defense".

Status of Palestine

The people of Palestine demand that they should be established as an independent nation in West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. They have been suffering displacement, obstruction and inequality for the last 75 years. Both the Palestinian Authority and Hamas are struggling with different strategies for this purpose. Palestine has not yet received recognition as a state. It is registered in the United Nations as an observer state. It has not yet received recognition as a full country. It is continuously making efforts for this.

 Two state solutions

The international community supports the idea of a two-state solution to resolve the Israel-Palestine issue. According to this, two independent nations — Israel and Palestine — should be established. However, Israel and some other countries have concerns regarding its implementation. The United States, European nations, and major democracies like India support this two-nation theory.

Conclusion

The Israel-Palestine conflict is not just a fight between two communities, but it has become an international issue, which has given rise to instability and violence in the Middle East for decades. This conflict is linked to complex layers of land, identity, religion, politics and human rights. So far no permanent solution to this dispute has been found.

Although the two-nation solution is being supported by the international community, the situation on the ground is the opposite. Continuous war, violence and distrust towards each other are making this solution more difficult. Until both the parties come on the path of mutual understanding, dialogue and cooperation, a peaceful solution to this conflict seems impossible. What is your opinion on the conflict between Israel and Palestine? Comment and tell how long this issue will continue as a conflict and will there be a permanent solution to it or not?
