China-Taiwan Conflict 2025: Rising Tensions and Global Implications

Current scenario of China-Taiwan dispute

Tensions between China and Taiwan have been at their peak since the beginning of 2025. And as time goes on, the tension is also increasing. Recently, in the last week of April 2025, China conducted a major military exercise with many military ships, fighter aircraft and missile systems near the borders of Taiwan. This military exercise is not just a show. Rather it is a well-thought strategic move of China. In view of these actions of China, Taiwan has alerted not only Taiwan but the entire Indo-Pacific region. Taiwan says that China can do anything at any time.

China's military activities of April 2025

Recently, China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) has conducted military exercises in the area around Taiwan with the aim of integrating the whole of China and Taiwan. More than 100 fighter aircraft and several new generation warships were used in the drill of the Chinese Army. When asked about this exercise of the Army, China said that this military exercise was very necessary. This exercise was to protect the borders of China. Apart from this, it has warned this exercise against foreign interference in its internal affairs. Which indirectly points towards America and Western countries.

Taiwan's response and preparation

After this military exercise of China, Taiwan has also taken cognizance of it and has put its Air Force and Navy on high alert. Because there is sea all around Taiwan. Therefore, there will not be a war on the land border, if there is a war, then it will be in the water and air sector. For this, Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen has sought support from the international community. Taiwan's President says that Taiwan's security is an issue related to the stability of the Asia-Pacific region. For this, America was helping Taiwan from the very beginning. America is openly in favor of Taiwan. Recently, Taiwan has demanded more defense assistance from America. So that in the future, China can be dealt with in times of war.

US and Japan's stand : Power balance in Indo-Pacific

The US and Japan have strongly criticized China's military activities against Taiwan. And both countries have indicated their support to Taiwan under their policy of "strategic ambiguity" in gestures. Why will they support Taiwan in any situation in the future? For this, the US Navy has already increased its presence in the South China Sea. And Japan has also appealed to maintain peace and stability in the region. For this, Japan has recently increased its defense budget significantly. Which is the strategic support of both the countries towards Taiwan.

India's position: diplomacy and regional security

India has not yet commented directly on this dispute between China and Taiwan, but some experts say that the Taiwan issue has become a sensitive point in India's Indo-Pacific strategy. Because India also has a border dispute with China. India's border dispute with China and India's participation in the Quad with America, Japan, Australia, is forcing India to remain vigilant in the coming future. Therefore, India takes a balanced stance in the global scenario and talks about regional stability.

Is the fear of war increasing ?

Whether there is a war or not, the fear of war is increasing continuously. Because if China takes any aggressive step on Taiwan at any time, then this whole region can move towards a big conflict. To stop this conflict, America and its allies can help Taiwan. Due to which even a small spark can cause a big explosion in the coming time. That is, a small conflict can take the form of a big war. This can have a profound impact on the economic and technological supply chain of the whole world.

What is Taiwan ?

Taiwan today is a democratic, technologically and economically prosperous country, but its political recognition is limited. China constantly talks of "unification", while Taiwan seeks international support to save its identity and democracy. China is a member of the United Nations and is a part of the P5 group of countries. Whereas Taiwan is not recognized as a country by the United Nations. It is constantly striving for this. But it has not yet succeeded.

Conclusion

The escalating tensions between China and Taiwan have become a serious challenge not only for the two nations but also for the entire Indo-Pacific region and global stability. China's aggressive military maneuvers and Taiwan's heightened security concerns are intensifying the conflict. The support of countries like the United States and Japan, along with India's balanced diplomatic stance, has made this issue highly sensitive on the global stage. If even a small spark ignites in the future, it could lead to a large-scale war, deeply affecting regional politics, the global economy, and critical supply chains. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the international community to take concrete steps toward resolving this conflict through dialogue and diplomacy
