Global Terrorism and State Sponsorship – A Threat to World Peace | 2025 Analysis

Terrorism has been flourishing continuously since the 1990s. The reason behind this is the interests of some countries and to show themselves strong in the world through these organizations. Today in 2025, terrorism is not the problem of any one country, now it has become a global crisis. These terrorist organizations are spreading terror in the world not only on the basis of radical ideology, but also due to direct or indirect state sponsorship of some countries. State sponsorship terrorism has become a challenge for the peace and stability of not only one country but the whole world. If the whole world does not pay attention to this problem very soon, then terrorism will prove to be very deadly and harmful for the coming generations. It is possible that this terrorism may not become a headache for the world like dinosaurs in the coming days, so very soon the whole world will have to form an opinion on this. Let us know - what is terrorism? And how does it flourish.

What is terrorism ?

Terrorism is a violent act committed by some people or group whose aim is to spread fear, instability and anarchy in the society. These people mainly target political, innocent citizens, public places, government institutions. These people have no rules, they kill innocent people ruthlessly. This is a curse for the society of the whole world.

How does any terrorist organization work and how does it flourish, where do they get weapons and money from. And how do these people leave the mainstream and act like enemies of humanity.

What is state-sponsored terrorism?

Terrorists do not flourish just like that. Some countries secretly nurture these terrorist organizations. And secretly give money, weapons, training to these terrorist organizations. They get political protection from the government. We call this state-sponsored terrorism. This is a way in which a country exerts pressure on another country through terrorism to accept its conditions. We call it proxy war. Many countries use these organizations in their own interest. And also give them shelter.

Common ways of sponsorship

Some countries provide financial aid to terrorism to reduce the influence of other countries and to increase their influence and dominance in the world, also provide them arms and military training. They also share intelligence information about these organizations with each other. They also provide political protection to these organizations at international forums like the United Nations etc. For example, China vetoed the bill to prevent Pakistan's terrorist Masood Azhar from being declared a global terrorist. Many countries also provide accommodation and food facilities to these terrorist organizations.

Major examples of state-sponsored terrorism

Terrorism in South Asia by Pakistan

Pakistan is continuously spreading terrorism in South Asia, whether it is Afghanistan or India. Pakistan gave birth to terrorist organizations to remove the Soviet Union from Afghanistan and for almost three decades it provided all the facilities to these organizations. Now it is continuously spreading terrorism in the Indian states of Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab as well. These terrorist organizations include more than 150 UN-banned terrorist organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Haqqani Network. According to India and many international reports, Pakistan repeatedly supports these terrorist organizations.

State-sponsored terrorist organizations by Pakistan have carried out many terrorist incidents in India, including the 2008 Mumbai attack, the 2019 Pulwama terrorist attack, the 22 April 2025 Pahalgam attack, etc.

Conflict between Iran and West Asia

Iran has also been supporting some major organizations for a long time. These organizations have established their presence in different countries. These organizations want to get the government and the citizens there to work in their own way. Iran has been accused of directly or indirectly supporting other organizations. Such as Hezbollah in Lebanon, Houthi rebels in Yemen, Hamas in Israel, militia in Iraq and Syria.

Iran uses these organizations to increase regional and global influence and to weaken the influence of countries like America, Israel and Saudi Arabia. (Not all countries consider these organizations as terrorist organizations)

Global impact of state-sponsored terrorism

Due to state-sponsored terrorism, the mutual relations of many countries are tense and fragile. Like India-Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Iran, Iran and Israel, Iran and America. Due to terrorism, ceasefires and agreements between many countries have been broken. Human rights are violated due to terrorism, many innocent people are killed in it. And the displacement of citizens going from one country to another also increases. Apart from this, terrorism also causes economic loss. In the areas or countries where the shadow of terror prevails, there is no foreign investment. And neither the tourism industry is able to develop.

Role of international community

United Nations, FATF (Financial Action Task Force), European Union and many countries are trying to eliminate terrorism together. For this, Pakistan was put in the grey list of FATF. But now it has been taken out of the grey list due to help by some countries due to personal interest. America has imposed many economic sanctions on the same Asian country Iran.

Even after doing all this, it is not enough for terrorism. The international community will have to take concrete measures to eradicate terrorism from its roots. Till now the whole world has not been able to decide the definition of terrorism. To eliminate terrorism, definite and real action will have to be taken against terrorist organizations. The countries giving money, training, weapons to these people will also have to be curbed.

Conclusion

State-sponsored terrorism is not just a regional issue; it is a growing global threat that endangers international peace, security, and human civilization. As long as some countries continue to use terrorism as a tool to achieve their geopolitical interests, the world will remain unsafe for future generations.

Terrorism, when supported by state power—through funding, training, or political backing—becomes even more dangerous and difficult to eliminate. The international community must come together not only to condemn terrorism in words but also to take unified and decisive action against nations that harbor and support such groups.

To secure a peaceful future, it is imperative to define terrorism globally, isolate its sponsors diplomatically and economically, and ensure accountability at every level. The world must act now—before this menace grows beyond control and becomes an irreversible curse for humanity.
