History of Israel
Around 1000 BC, the Jews established a kingdom in Canaan (now Israel region). This kingdom was under the rule of the Roman emperors King David and Solomon. This empire tortured the Jews a lot and expelled them from their own land. After being evicted from their own kingdom, the Jews started living in the countries of Europe, Africa and West Asia.
Atrocities and discrimination against Jews
In the 19th century, violence against Jews spread on a large scale in Europe. Many false allegations were made against them such as being responsible for the murder of Jesus, greedy for money etc. Large scale violent attacks also took place against Jews in Russia, Poland and other countries.
During the Second World War, about 60 lakh Jews were killed under the leadership of the German ruler Hitler. After this, by the time the Second World War ended, there was no place left for Jews in Europe.
Why was Israel formed
When there was genocide in Europe, the Jews started feeling that instead of living in other countries, they should have their own country where they have a permanent place and international identity because they were repeatedly leaving many countries including Europe. A Zionism movement was started in the end of the 19th century. It was started by Theodore Herschel. The main objective of this movement was to create an independent nation for the Jews in Palestine. This movement united the Jews of the world for the goal of their own nation.
Balfour Declaration 1917
Britain had an empire over Palestine since the time of World War I. It had won it from the Ottoman Empire. In 1917, under the Balfour Declaration, Britain talked about a national home for the Jews. After this, Jews from all countries started coming to Palestine and living there. Due to this, discontent started spreading among the communities already settled there.
Jewish migration and Arab opposition
The Jews who were living in other countries including Europe were evacuated from there and started buying land there and started farming. They opened schools and colleges there. After the Jews came here, the Arab community started feeling that the Jews were taking away their lands. As a result, many Arab revolts took place from 1936 to 1939.
Establishment of Israel
After the establishment of the United Nations on 22 October 1947, the UN proposed to divide Palestine into two parts, the first part being the Jewish state and the second being the Arab state and Jerusalem as an international area. The Jews accepted this proposal of the United Nations but now the community rejected this proposal. On 14 May 1948, David Ben Gurion declared Israel as an independent Jewish nation. Israel was recognized as a member by the United Nations on 11 May 1949 and it became the 159th country.
Wars between Israel and Arab countries
From the time of the establishment of Israel, the relations between the Arab community and Israel have never been normal. The first war between Israel and the Arabs took place in 1948. The second war took place in 1967. In this war, Israel occupied Gaza, Best Bank, East Jerusalem and Syria's Golan Heights. This war is known as the Six Day War. In 1973 too, Israel was suddenly attacked by the Arabs. Israel emerged victorious in all these wars. This shows how strong Israel is today.
Current status of Israel
After the existence of Israel, Israel has progressed a lot. Most of the world's start-up companies are in Israel today. Big companies like Google, Microsoft, Apple run their research centers there. Along with this, Israel has also developed its security system a lot. Israel's missile defense system Iron Dome is a world famous defense system. Today, the Jewish community settled in America, Europe and Canada has a tremendous political and economic hold.
