 Every year on 26th July, we Indians celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas. Today is the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas. Kargil War: Background

The Kargil War started in the month of May in 1999. In the month of May, Pakistan's army and its supported terrorists infiltrated the Kargil sector (now Ladakh) of Jammu and Kashmir and captured Indian posts. In response to this, the Indian Army launched Operation Vijay. The Indian Army launched a very strong attack and after about 60 days of struggle, India regained all its territory on 26 July 1999. Since then, we celebrate 26 July as Kargil Vijay Diwas.
